Are Frequent Nose Bleeds Related To Mood Swings In A Child?
My 7 year old son gets nosebleeds frequently. He had his nose cauterized back in May of this year but it didn't help the nose bleeds. Today he had 3 different nosebleeds with huge clots coming out of the nostrils. We are also in the process of seeing a psychologist regarding my son's beahvior and seeing if he is ADHD and ODD. I was wondering if his mood swings which are very common where he gets worked up and angry maybe have something to do with his nose bleeding. He just got one a couple hours ago that was really bad and it was during the time he needed to get out of the car and go to his CCD class at church and threw a fit about getting out and refused to go in and then got the nose bleed.
Hi, thanks for asking. I can understand your concerns. In my opinion the mood swings or the temper tantrums do not have relations with the nose bleeds. It is possible that while having temper tantrums he is crying or shouting at the top of his voice and that leads to raised nasal pressure which may cause nasal polyp to bleed. I would suggest you see a developmental paediatrician regarding his behavioural issues. It will help you manage his behaviour. Also consult his ENT surgeon regarding the need for further management of the nose bleeds. I hope I have helped you. Thank you.
