General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Mood swings and personality changes at this age could be an early indication of dementia, which may be promoted by other factors such as falls and concussions, vitamin B12 deficiency, prescription drug interactions, dehydration or depression and if the culprit is determined, the symptoms could be reversed or progression could be stopped.

In any case, you need to find the way to get your husband to see a doctor and get a complete checkup to determine the cause. Maybe using a white lie, like telling him you were both offered a free checkup as part of a promotional package or something like that would convince him to accept.

Wishing you both good health and all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Ornela Ademovi
