Are Depression And Mood Swings Caused Due To Polycystic Ovaries?

Hi. I have been heaving irregular and heavy period for the last 3 years and with no improvement.been on admin,Depo and once inserted Mirena which was removed within a short time because i bleed continously.lately i was put on primolut n because my doctor discovered i have polycystic ovaries. On the 20th December 2015 I did vaginal ultra sound and the cysts where many in one ovary while the other was said to be ovulating. Had unprotected sex trying to conceive and today 03/01/2016 I started bleeding which I guess means am not pregnant. M currently not on primolut last took it day 19 for 7 days from my 02nd Nov 2015 Menses. Am currently on treatment for Bipolar mood disorder and taking valproate sodium.this is because I had lost a child in 2013 and didn t get any counselling and had a breakdown.i have read on Google that polycystic ovaries cause depression and mood swings and probably the Bipolar mood disorder diagnosis is not appropriate.I also have problems with my skin its too only and have acne. Please assist and advice

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Mood swings can occur in polycystic ovaries due to hormonal imbalance. However, these mood swings are controlled by treatment for polycystic ovaries. Since, the mood swings cannot be managed by treatment for polycystic ovaries, it is due to bipolar illness. I suggest you to consult your psychiatrist for alter the dosage of drug as and when required.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
