Are Antibiotics Safe For Babies?

My 8 month old baby has a urine infection where the pus count is 80-100 and some protein in the urine. He has been told to have 2.5ml of cefixime oral suspensiont twice a day for 10 days. I am not comfortable giving my child antibiotics and prefer homeopathy treatment. Are antibiotics safe for my bay?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, cefixime is considered to be safe in infants. Cefixime is commonly prescribed to infants suffering from urinary tract infection caused by susceptible bacteria. Generally, it is well tolerated by most infants and hence considered to be safe.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
