Are Tramadol, Gabapentin And Cyclobenzaprine The Right Medication For Concussion?

my physician prescribed both tramadol and gabapentin after a car accident. She indicated that i have a concussion, whip lash and possible pinched nerve or herniated disk. The ER doc gave me cyclobenzaprine.....it seems to me all these together may not be a good idea

I concur with your concerns on combining these drugs.....you will be sleeping for as long as it takes for either Prince Charming or Princess Charmaine to come and awaken you out of your Rhoncorous slumber if you've never had these drugs before. We generally treat concussions very conservatively with ES Tylenol and not even Motrin since the latter can irritate the stomach and if there are any baseline symptoms of nausea/vomiting from the accident/concussion then, the Motrin will just make that worse. Tramadol as a pain medication has both addictive properties and can lower seizure threshold and it's not even that great an analgesic. It can also worsen nausea/vomiting following a concussion so I wouldn't advise for that reason as well. A whiplash injury will respond well to thermal interventions and some ES Tylenol...nothing is really going to stop the stiffness from occurring. I've not found cyclobenzaprine or any common anti-spasmodic to be overly helpful compared to crushed ice 3x/day for 20-30 minutes at a time and gentle ROM movements in the first 24-48 hrs. changing to heat afterward along with AQUATHERAPY for improving cervical ROM...little by little. You will get better with time and without sleeping the next 3 months of your life or feeling as if you just got off a bus in the middle of a cornfield when you were expecting Times Square. Please rate this a 5 STAR ENCOUNTER and write to me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi with more comments or questions.
