Are EGRFR 52, Creatinine 1.27 And CO2 18 Normal Results While Having Only One Kidney?

I had a kidney removed 18 months ago because I had a scar tissue blockage as a result of radiation therapy due to cancer. The blockage caused my kidney to die. I just had blood tests run and my eGFR is 52, Creatinine is 1.27 and CO2 is 18. All are out of normal ranges. I am a 42 year old female. They indicate that I might have kidney damage. Are these normal results for someone with only one kidney and for my age? Thank you

The eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate), creatinine, and CO2 are all important markers used to assess kidney function. A normal eGFR is generally considered to be above 60 ml/min/1.73m2. Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscle metabolism and is usually filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. A normal creatinine level for a woman is typically between 0.5 and 1.1 mg/dL. CO2, also known as bicarbonate, is a component of the body's acid-base balance and is regulated by the kidneys and lungs.

In general, having only one functioning kidney can put an individual at higher risk for kidney damage or disease, as the remaining kidney has to work harder to filter waste products from the blood. It is important to monitor kidney function regularly in such cases.

In your case, an eGFR of 52, creatinine of 1.27, and CO2 of 18 are all outside of the normal range, indicating that there may be some degree of kidney damage. However, it is difficult to say for sure without additional information such as your medical history and other test results.
