Are B12 Deficiency And Gastritis Related To Each Other?

I have a b12 deficiency and have recently been diagnosed with gastritis. Ive had no vomiting and one if two loose bowel moments. Ive also started itching all over. Are the b12 deficiency and gastritis related? (Ive had no official diagnosis for the b12 deficiency other than latent coeliacs?)

Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM.
Yes. Gastritis can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency.
This is because, vitamin B12 requires a glycoprotein produced in stomach by gastric mucosa called 'intrinsic factor of castle' for its absorption.
In severe gastritis, this does not happen and thus can lead to Vitamin B 12 deficiency.
Since it is the only water soluble vitamin which is stored in the body, its deficiency manifestations are quite late.
In case deficiency occurs, injections are available and can be administered.
