Any Suggestion For Severe Pain And Swelling In Knee?

my mother is suffering from knee problems since long time. But, now a days problem is becoming more severe. Her left knee(Just below the knee joint) is paining and there is swelling also. She is not able to stand and walk properly. Her left leg is not able to support the body weight.

When they wake up from sleep, It is very difficult for them to stand at once.

I want to know that what kind of problem this is and what's the cure?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear Sir/Mam,
I understand your concern. Considering the fact that she has not had any trauma the symptoms are very classical of osteoarthritis of knees. This is age related degeneration of the knee joints which gives rise to the above symptoms. Getting her knees xrayed will be the first thing. Anti inflammatory drugs with analgesics and lots of ice packs should take care of the pain. Hope this has helped you.
