Ankle Sprained, Having Bruises And Swelling, Sore Muscles. Can It Be A Severe Sprain?

Hello. So I sprained my ankle 11days ago and I still have a bruises and less swelling but it is still swollen. The thing is that now the pain is different than at first. At first it was more the pressure that was hurting. Now my muscles are really sore. I even have a muscle that is super sensitive on the exterior of my left leg almost reaching all the way to the knee. Could it be a really severe sprain? By the way.. I did hear a pop when it happenned

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

I suggest you get clinically examined by an orthopedician and also get a X ray done to rule out any bone injury. If the pain is severe and not improving on medications, a MRI can of ankle might be necessary. This will show any severe sprain and your doctor will decide if you require a brace. Till then you may rest, avoid putting weight on your affected ankle, elevate your leg while sleeping, take ice packs and compression.

Hope this helps
