Anger, Frustration. Suffering From Paranoid Scizophrenia. Any Advice?

Hi just a week ago my brother aged 34 was diagnosed with paranoid Scizophrenia. im struggling talking to him on the phone as he gets so frustrated with his doctors. doesn't trust anyone, has big delusions and im feeling lost because there is nothing I can do. He wants a second opinion, from n outside doctor other than the mental illness ward he is a patient at currently. because there is no proof on paper he doesn't believe he has it, I know he does. its just hard to hear him and not being able to help. all I do is listen, I don't give advice just try to help him think positive about his situation. Today he is very angry and frustrated. YYYY@YYYY

Hi there.
I fully understand your predicament. Looks like your brother has delusions (false beliefs) which are adding to the problem. The other feature of his illness is what we call as a 'loss of insight' which means that he does not think that he is unwell or needs any further treatment. Some aggression towards family members can come as a result of this.
You have mentioned that he is in a hospital which is good news. I say that because atleast he is not a risk to himself or others in a big way. The best treatment under these circumstances is medication. I would advise you to speak to the hospital team and get an update about the progress. Once the treatment kicks in, these beliefs and the aggression will change. In the meantime neither agree nor challenge his delusions.
Good luck with his recovery.
