Alcoholic, Have IBS, Liver Function Shows Abnormal ALT Level. On Cerazette. What Are The Causes?

hi im 36 years old exercise regulary drink alcohol on weekends only eat a healthy diet i also have IBS My liver function test ALT was 64 and a couple of months ago i had a normal result after my normal result i was put on contraceptive pill Cerezette which is mini pill can this cause my ALT levels to rise? also can IBS and stress cause the levels to rise? i am female

In your case, the most likely cause of liver enzyme elevation is Cerazette, the progesterone-only-pill that you are taking. But you need not worry as your present ALT level is not a cause for concern. Elevation of liver enzymes is considered significant only if it is more than three times the upper limit of normal range. Elevations lower than these are common and usually due to use of medicines or drugs that are metabolized in the liver. These do not indicate liver damage. IBS and stress are unlikely to cause this.
