About 1 month ago, I was diagnosed with a throat abscess. My doctor did not send me to the hospital to have it lanced or drained because at the time, I did not have health insurance. She treated it with prednisone, and antibiotics. After the 1st round of antibiotics, I was still complaining of swelling and slight pain, so she prescribed another round of antibiotics. I have a consultation with an ENT for next week because I am still having pain and it feels like I am always swallowing a "lump". When I look in my mouth, it seems that the side that had the abscess is not the same "shape" as the other side. My uvula seems thicker on that side. My entire mouth is now hurting, I have bumps on the side of my tongue and my tongue hurts all the time. I should also note, that I do not have my tonsils, they were removed when I was 10. I am now 45. Is it possible that the infection from the abscess did not go away and has spread? Isnt it unusual to get this type of abscess without tonsils? Also, although this is unrelated, I am sure, I was recently treated for bladder cancer.
