Abnormal Heart Beat, Sweating While Walking And Climbing Stairs, Overweight. Should I Be Concerned?

lately when I walk out to my car after work (which is approx 1/4 mi away) and then climb up 2 flights of stairs, my heart starts beating out of my chest , i have a difficult time taking in a deep breath, i sweat profusely. I am over-weight but actually am thinner than I have been in 10 years. I am a fairly active 57year old woman but this is not a comfortable feeling. When i go for a walk I notice that it is becoming harder to keep up a good stride. Should I be concerned?

Hello and welcome to HCM
I am a jr. to Cardiologist and read your mail in detail. Wants to help you out. As per Symptoms you have explained in your mail, You might be suffering from CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) or Valvular disease of Heart or Respiratory System disease like Asthma, COPD etc and Anemia. Needs to be investigated in detail. Most likely to be CAD. Risk factors for CAD are:
1. Family History?
2. Age above 40
3. Obesity (You are)
4. Heart Disease
5. Lack of exercise
6. Raised Total Cholesterol and Triglycerides (seems to be higher)
7. Low HDL (Good Cholesterol)
8. Diabetes (don't know)
You must check your Fasting Blood Sugar and Lipidogram. Also go for EKG, Echocardiography (to rule out Valvular disease and CAD) and Treadmill Test (TMT).
At last consult your doctor and get investigated properly.
Best Wishes
