8 Year Old Son, Stabbing Pain On Right Hand Wrist, Fell On Wrist. Cause Of Pain? Should I See A Doctor?

My 8 year old son just fell on his wrist and is now having stabbing pain on the right side of his right hand wrist. He can squeeze things and pinch things and move his wrists up and down and around in a circular motion. I was just wondering what could be causing the pain he is experiencing and if he should see a doctor now.

Gastroenterologist, Surgical Dr. Nitin Rao's  Response
It would be a good idea to see a doctor as the pain has been after a fall (trauma). If necessary the doctor is even likely to suggest a X ray to be sure there are no bone related problems.
Take care

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Movement in the wrist , not granted that there is no fracture in wrist.
There are 8 very small bone in wrist , so any chip fracture may cause excruciating pain.
In my opinion get in X ray ( both lateral and AP view) wrist and consult an orthopaedician and get treatment.
Good luck for little one.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

I feel you should visit your doctor.
Proper physical examination will identify if a X ray is required to rule out fracture.

Your doctor may order a X ray if there is any doubt.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
