7 Year Old On Dexamphetamine. Violent And Aggressive Behavior. Can The Dosage Be Reduced?

My 7 year old son has been taking stimulants for 2 years, he is currently on 7.5mg of Dexamphetamine BD, (he's been on dex for about 6-8mths, previously was on Ritalin). I want to take him off of stimulants because they no longer seem to be working and dont want to just keep increasing the dose and he has become more aggressive, violent and emotional lately. Can I just reduce his dose over a couple of weeks or can I do it over a week? I plan to keep him home from school while we do this so i can keep a close eye on him.

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

Your symptoms might be due to
- Amphetamine Side effects
- Oppositional defiant disorder
- Conduct disturbances

You should consult your child psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and management.

He may get benefit by counselling and decrease or omission of drugs.

Thanks.
