12 Year Old, Ulcerative Colitis, Diarrhea. Taking Folic Acid, Balsalazide, Iron Supplement. Treatment?
my child is 12 years old and he has ulcerative colitis. He has diarrhea very bad. It would seem that the food he eats goes straight through him within the next 10-20 min he has eaten. We do have an appt about his condition in the next 2 days, but i just want to know what we can do to control his diarrhea.
medications he is currently on: folic acid, balsalazide 750mg caps, iron liquid supplment, (he was on prednisone which controls his sysmptoms but as soon as he is off the medication his symptoms are back and worse)
he follows a low residue diet and drinks ensure and ensure clear
we tried imodium and it doesn't seem to work.

ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease requiring prolonged treatment
maintenance of nutrition is more important other wise the child will become malnourihed
salizilene and loperamide may be tried
but the child should be under constant supervision of a pediatrician
