10 Year Old With Low IgA Blood Report. Feeling Tired, Abdominal Pain And Pain In The Knee And Feet. Abscess Drainage From Chest. Advice?

Hi my daughter is 10. She has had a low igA blood result, she is constantly tired, tummy pains off and on and joint pain in her left knee and foot. Dr says here other levels are good, no celiac disease and no anaemia. She had persistent abscesses drained from her chest about 18 months ago due to what they said was a bronchial sinus? This infection happened four times in one year, resulting in surgical lancing of the area. She also has keloid scarring of that area. I am wondering if there is any connection or if my GP is missing something. Thank you

Hello:
The branchial cleft cyst is congenital, which means she was born with that. The cyst occurs when tissues in the neck and collarbone area (branchial cleft) fail to develop normally in utero. A branchial cleft cyst may form from fluid drained from a sinus. The cyst or sinus can become infected, and they can be initially treated with antibiotics, but surgery is generally done to remove the cyst, to prevent complications, such as repeated infections. Keloid scars can develop after surgery.
None of the above problems are related to low IgA levels. IgA deficiency is the most common human immunodeficiency. Most of IgA deficient patients have no symptoms, and some have a higher frequency of respiratory and gastrointestinal tract infections. A second major problem in IgA deficiency is the occurrence of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, which could explain her joint pain. She should see a Rheumatologist.
