Brief Answer:
need X-ray...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I was able to view the picture attached. Yes, the nasal area seems swollen. The crunching sound could either be due to inflammation or broken bones. And as per you, the symptoms of swelling and pain are better than what it had been couple of days ago. Therefore in my opinion possibility of non fracture injury is likely . However I will encourage to visit a doctor. I would order for X-ray of the affected area (nose and paranasal sinus).

In the meanwhile, he should ice the affected area. Start over the counter antinflammation drugs (ibuprofen 400mg twice daily) after food.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
