Question: several weeks ago, I contacted you due to recurrent lower abdominal pain and diarrhea. Since then on August 9, I had a colonoscopy and upper scoping. A polyp was removed and was not remarkable. Immediately after these procedures, all symptoms stopped. I was totally free if pain and diarrhea.
However, very suddenly 3 nights ago, the pain began again. I recognized the specific pain immediately. Since then, the pain is persistent and has caused me to double over. I do not have diarrhea this time.
Do you have any idea of what is wrong

Brief Answer:
recurrence of polyp.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service on this forum my dear patient,
I have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns,
As per the details given by you ;you are experiencing the pain of the same nature. Its not necessary that a polyp once removed would not recur. Many time a polyp recur in few months or even few weeks time.
What to do now?
Meet your Gastroenterologist and plan a check colonoscopy to remove the new polyp from intestine.
Very likely its a case of recurrence of polyp post removal.

I am sorry but I closed my last correspondence before I thought of this follow-up question: Can polyps cause the symptoms I experienced previously and have returned in the past two days?

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Definitely yes, and the main catch is that pain resembles the pain you were having at the time of the last polyp. If the nature of pain is the same, then yes, a recheck colonoscopy should be done.

Thank you.
