Brief Answer:
MRI scan and few blood tests needed to find the exact cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
At his age, knee joints usually start undergoing degenerative changes causing minor pains. If the X-rays are normal then it is better to go for MRI scan of the knee to detect any soft tissue abnormalities.
The pain in knee joint can be due to osteoarthritic changes, low levels of calcium and vitamin D3, postural abnormalities or a soft tissue injury. Few investigations are needed to find the cause so that specific treatment can be started.
Physiotherapy exercises also play an important role if it is due to degenerative changes. Do consult an orthopedician for physical examination and MRI scan and few blood blood tests to find the exact cause. Till then pain killers like ibuprofen or Naproxen can help.
I hope this answers your query.
