Hiya! I Have A Question About Headaches .. Often When

Question: hiya!

i have a question about headaches.. often when im stressed or sick, i get headaches that start in my neck and will radiate all over my head and feel like a im being squeezed bit there will also be random stabbing, sharp pains... while i have the headache, the pain sort of shifts around and while the whole head will be tender and sore, usually pain settles in one or both temples. when i massage my neck and shoulder on the side of the temple that hurts, it goes away but comes back soon after i stop.

the headaches usually start later in the day and last until i fall asleep, whixh is sometimes hard because the psin is pretty bad. the next day i might be tender in the neck and head and will get another headache easily if i positon my head the wrong way. i am just recovering from the flu and i had a horrible headache for days which reminded me of the problem but it used to happen really often.

i dont really get sensitive to anything, or really nauseous but the pain is pretty intense and distracting so its hard to concentrate on anything.

i do hold all of my tension in my neck and shoulders but i didnt think a tension headache could be so specific. i thought it was a more general ache. this is a persistent sharp, nagging pain.

could this be temporal arteritis? is it just a nasty tension headache? it doesnt exactly sound like migraine...

thanks

Brief Answer:
Most likely tension-type headache.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, following your description of the headaches, tension-type headache is a very possible condition.

Occipital neuralgia also may be considered but less possible than tension-type headache.

Temporal arteritis symptoms differ completely from symptoms described by you.

Tension-type headaches are associated with muscular and psychological factors.

So, exercise to improve the neck muscles spasms and modalities to relieve anxiety and stress should improve the headaches too.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
