Question: hi there. i do not have diabetes (my a1c is 5.4 at last check) and i have anxiety / panic disorder.

symptoms of anxiety always chsnge for me and come on randomly...

often i will get very anxious, like on the verge of a panic attack, but the symptoms will just linger for sometimes an hour, just on the edge of full blown panic... usually its nausea, highly anxious, restless, and slight dizziness or a feeling of wooziness.

i constantly fear low blood sugar creates the symptoms because they come out of nowhere, like i wasnt thinking anxiously in the monent... and sometimes its after a few hours of not eating.

the symptoms never get worse, but they stay at a hogh level until i eat or get completely distracted.

how does blood sugar actually work? i get so scared and confused that my blood sugar drops like 5 times a day if i dont eat every 2 hours. (sometimes i have that many panic attacks in a day)

Brief Answer:
You need a glocose meter.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your query and understood your concern.

It is true, most of your symptoms(restless, dizziness, anxiety without a reason) can be related to hypoglicemia.

At the other side, the fact that symptoms disappear after eating is very suggestive that the cause of your symptoms may be hypoglicemia.

In my opinion, you may have a drop in your blood sugar that occur in response to stress.Your body "burns up sugar very rapidly " in times of stress.

So,hypoglicemis 's own phsychological symptoms tric us into thinking that we are panicking.

To conclude if it is hypoglicemia that cause your symptoms or not it is necessary to check your blood sugar level during the time of symptoms.
If the result is <70 mg/dl it is hypoglicemia.

Let me know your exact result and i will be happy to guide you further.

Wish you good health.

Ok, I will check it... but if it is low blood sugar... it doesn't mean im sick, right? I am VERY stressed right now... the most stress ever in my life... so it could be either my anxiety or a combination. Is the solution to just to make sure I am eating more protein every few hours while under stress?

Brief Answer:
Acute stress is the key.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
I appologise for the late reply.

Yes,in your case it can be a combination of anxiety caused by Acute Stress and Hypoglicemia because as i said earlier Stres can induce to hypoglicemia and hypoglicemia can produce symptoms like yours.

Let me know your blood sugar results in the moment when you have symptoms(two-three measurements in different days) and i will guide you further.

Regards.

hi. i am in the midst of feeling very anxious right now... it started after i took a shower and pooped, i got a bit shaky feeling inside and nauseous, it wasnt going away despite my wffirts to calm down. it has been about 5 hours since i ate anything significant, though i had a snack of carrots and dip 3 hours ago and a little piece of candy about a bit ago. i took my blood sugar about 40 minutes into feeling anxious and it was 96.

should i take it more than once? whats this mean?

Brief Answer:
Your blood sugar is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

If your blood sugar was 96 in the moment of symptoms(before you ate the snack) than we can deduct that you had not hypoglicemia.
-This means that is the Stress that cause all your symptoms.

-Yes,it is necessary to repeat the test 2-3 times in other days to exclude definitely the hypoglicemia like potential cause of your actual symptoms.

Let me know the results and i will guide you further.

thanks. and overnight it felt like my body was fighting sleep. i kept waling up with surges of energy that would stimulate my whole body and stomach. it happened a few times overnight and i woke up feeling anxious and like i wanted to crawl out of my skin. does that sound like stress and anxiety to you too?

the surges of energy feel really strong. like a burst of adrendline into my body as im trying to rest... almost like putting your foot on the gas pedal of a car thats in neutral. the energy comes but the car goes nowhere.

Brief Answer:
Stress and anxiety need to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

I did some questions because I suspected a diagnosis called Pheochromocytoma, considering your last symptoms during the night.
But from your answers, I can exclude this diagnosis.

In my opinion, all your symptoms are the result of anxiety and stress. The fact that all the symptoms disappear when you calm yourself confirms what we said about the etiology of your condition.

I suggest consulting a psychiatrist in your area because it is necessary to confirm the anxiety disorder and to have the right treatment accordingly to the diagnosis.

Hope this is helpful.
Best regards
