Question: hello doctor I did get sore right tonsil about 2 months ago; it took about 10-12 days to disappear; with only home treatment. I only had pain when swallowing, but not sore throat or anything like that. The right tonsil did have a white coat on it and it started to disappear (looks a bit like tonsil stones). After the symptoms and pain were gone I just forgot about it and didnt look at it again. Now two months after and when I just brushed my teeth before bed, I looked accidentially after my tonsil. The right tonsil is still bigger than the other and has a white coat on it. I Don't Have any symtoms what so ever. I have read alot about tonsil cancer and asymmetrical tonsil; so it really scared me. What can I do ? or do I have to do anything ?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. It looks like you are having a white oatch of the tonsil. The common causes are tonsillar keratosis, tonsillar stone, tonsillitis, diphtheria, specific bacterial infection. Tonsillar malignancy is another cause for oatch in tonsil but it's not so common. Are you having any family history of any malignancy? You need to consult an Ent surgeon and get thoroughly checked. Get a throat swab done and send for culture and sensivity because any bacterial infection can also lead to tonsillar patch. Also rule out diohtheria infection by doing diphtheria culture. Get an endoscopy of the larynx to see the throat if there is any lesion in the larynx which may lead to similar patch. Do betadine gargle. The best way to know if this is a malignancy or asymmetric tonsil is do tonsillectomy and sent for biopsy. Do a Contrast enhanced CT neck to see if there is any tumour specially in the parapharyngeal space. So the confirmatory test is to send for biopsy and a CECT neck. Please follow the advice and review if you have any queries.

Detailed Answer:
Treatment is only betadine and warm saline gargle. You can take antacid to reduce acid reflux. Tonsil may reduce in size after the allergic inflammation and acid reflux settles. Lead a healthy life.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. It has a role with acid reflux. Acid reflux can lead to tonsillar stone. It can be due to large crypts and secretions accumulated in the crypts. Better to remove it if not controlled by betadine.
