If you recently had a rotator cuff tear using cold pads for first 2-3 days is recommended. Avoid movement as much as possible. Using anti-inflammatory drugs such ibuprofen, naproxen or diclofenac can help you cope with pain and inflammation.
If the pain persists for long you can consult your doctor about using corticosteroid injections in the shoulder.
And if it doesn't help you but pain still exists you can discuss with your doctor about surgery repair.
