Question: early afternoon today, i was given an injection for the 65 pneumonia and for influenza. This is the first pneumonia injection I have gotten.
After about five hours, the arm wherein I was given the pneumonia injection started itching badly, became hot and red and swelled down to my elbow. I can hardly move my arm due to stiffness and pain. I have tried icing it rotating 15 minutes ice on and 15 minutes ice off. There has been no improvement. In fact, my right thumb is swelling and it is painful.

any suggestions? I have attached photos but I took them myself so they may not show the actual condition.
The other arm is fine.

Brief Answer:
Normal side effects of vaccine, use acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service
I read your query and here is my advice.

I see the photo you attached and the arm us really red and swollen. This can be side effects of injection of pneumonia and Influenza vaccine. The swelling, redness and itching, also joint pain, are common side effects of the vaccine and may last for 1 to 3 days.
You can use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and swelling. I don't think you may need other treatments.
If you experience swelling in face, rash all over body and itching you may need to seek medical attention soon, but this are very rare side effects of the vaccine.

Hope I have answered the question.
