default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I am 90 years of age and in very good condition with the exception of spinal stenosis. I have a hydrocele the size of a small orange on my left side and I need total hip replacement on left side. Would the hydrocele interfere with the surgery?

Brief Answer:
Hydrocele will not cause any problem in hip replacement

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. You can go ahead with hip replacement. Hydrocele will not cause any problem. If your surgeon agreed than hydrocele can be treated simultaneously.
You have to make sure that there is no infection in hydrocele. You are not having any fever or pain in swelling.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow of questions.

Thanks for the helpful information. Will the same surgeon do both while I am under the anesthesia and can a catheter be inserted at that time?

Can I consider discontinuation of the gabapentin since I will be using other pain medications for the surgery/s?

Brief Answer:
Same surgeon can not do that

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

1. Both surgeries requrie different surgeons. Same surgeon can not do both the procedures.

2. Gabapentin can be discontinued if you are not having much pain. But you should continue Methylcobal. Once surgery is done than you can again start Gabapentin if needed.

Thanks
