Why Is My Infant Not Gaining Weight While On Tonoferon Drops?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Mar 2021
Question: My 5 months old baby boy was on both mother's feed and similac advance for 2 and half months. Now he is on complete mother's feed and his weight is 7.9 kgs. At 4 months we were advised to give him tonoferon drops but with that he started passing stool more than normal with mucus. We we gave it a break his stool became normal. We tried this few times but in this complete period his stool never became normal and over a period of 15 days he didn't gain any weight. What should be done? Also when can we start introducing him to external food like cereal water or rice water? Also when can he start tasting/ licking fruits?

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on feeding baby

Detailed Answer:
Hi...

1.. Iron supplements usually cause this type of disturbances in gut. But the most common one is constipation and dark coloured stools.

2. You can try Ferrous ammonium citrate compound as iron supplements. This will minimise such effects.

3. I suggest that your baby be exclusively breast fed till 6 months of age completion. After that you can give things you are mentioning like rice water and fruits.
