Question: why would a saline solution be administered by IV to a person who is being given medication to get rid of excess fluids?

Firstly, some medications used for excess fluid can be administered only with saline solution.

Secondly, even if there is water excess, there still may be low blood pressure or dehydration that requires intravenous fluids and thirdly ,saline will enter blood vessels quickly and it may promote kidney excretion of excess fluids.
