Brief Answer:
Blood clot causes pain all the time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A blood clot in the calf is associated with intense calf pain even while resting. Rubbing is not needed to aggravate the pain. It is also associated with swelling of calf and sometimes skin color changes. Color doppler scan of the leg can detect it.
A localized bruise like pain in the calf can be due to a muscle sprain or a muscular pain related to the knee problems. Such pains may reduce with mild pain killers and application of local analgesic gels.
I hope this answers your query.
