Question: Why is it that some people who have never smoked get lung cancer, and some people who've smoked heavily all their lives don't get it?

Dear ma'am,

Thank you for asking your query at XXXXXXX This question is asked by many patients and the reason for this that cancer occurs due to certain non modifiable and certain non verifiable risk factors. The genetic make of a person predisposes a patient to cancer and in that case non modifiable risk factors like smoking do not play much of a role. The opposite of this is also true. Lung cancer can be caused by genetic factors, smoking, alcohol, lung injury, asbestos exposure, etc.

Please feel free to clarify any other query.
