Why Do I Have Swelling And Tenderness In The Muscle Below The Hip 7 Months Post THR?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Aug 2018
Question: It is 7 months since i had a total hip replacement. All but but i still take a lot of precaution with movement....my surgeon saw from x-ray that my leg was a half inch shorter than the other. He "heightened" my leg, which seemed very strange at first, and still does, but only feels a minimal shorter now. The muscle below that hip has always been more pronounced, but feels a bit swollen and tender still. Would this be normal after 7 months? Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
It needs 4-6 weeks approximately for the muscle to heal completely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

It needs around 4-6 weeks for the inflamed muscle to be completely healed.

So it will normal after that time, if you don't injure it meanwhile.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor, because that means that it may need physical therapy or other treatment to get better.

Hope this is helpful.

Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards.
