Why Do I Have Slight Swelling In My Lower Legs For Over Two Years?

default
Posted on 24 hours ago
Question: I have been dealing with an issue with my lower legs for a couple of years now. You wouldnt know it to look at them but slight swelling. Uncomfortable to wear shoes for a long period. Uncomfortable in areas where there may be pressure if crossing my legs or where cushion from recliner may be pressing on them from the bottom. Been tested for diabetes, vitamin dificiency, neuropathy, had an MRI, all negative. They said no PAD because I have good color, pulse in ankle, and warm. Up until that time, I had ran over 30,000 miles in my life, was in good shape for most men my age

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history well and understood the concerns.
My thoughts and advise would be as follows:
Ultrasonography and color doppler of both lower limbs for veins, arteries, inguinal lymph nodes.
Ultrasonography of abdomen, particularly to see for lymph nodes along the major vessels and their tributaries.
Renal functions and related blood tests like Serum proteins, counts.

Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Are the toes swollen or spared completely/
Any swelling/ lumps/ lymph nodes in inguinal region?
Did you have viral infection before starting this problem?
Please try to remember anything preceding this problem and let me know?
Please give symptoms in details.

Awaiting.

I was 52 and diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer in the center of my chest. That was successfully removed. It was up to that time I was still running 5 miles comfortably under 38 minutes. Because they had to reconstruct my chest, it was painful for me to run or left for a year.

In trying to get back into running, it was slow, I was now 53 and had gained 25 lbs. At the same time, I started to deal with what I believe was an enlarged prostate and was given a prescription for Tamsulosin. It concerned me that this may lower my blood pressure because at that time I was already taking Lycinopril (sp) for high blood pressure. After taking that medicine for the next couple of days, I was very lighted, I would lose my balance and the same day I decided NOT to take that medicine any more, I went home to change clothes to go running and took off my dress socks and notices deep impressions. I then noticed deep red splotches from my knees on down. The splotches did clear up but have had the slight swelling (even though my legs don't look swollen at all. 2 Dr's have pressed on them and said, you do have slight swelling in them) continues and the numbing pain. I am not sure if all that is related or not. I am tired of the CONSTANT low numbness and pain and want to go back to my regular routine and lose some of the 25-35 lbs I have gained since then. Side note. With all my running, I had a bad EKG back then, had to do a stress test and Cardiologist found no issues

Also, right now, I am walking at least 3 miles several times a week with intermittent running for short periods

YES! I started taking Licinopril about the same time. I came to that epiphany 4-5 months ago. Looked it up and found out it is an Ace inhibitor and can cause swelling where as a diuretic does not. I told my new Dr I wanted off the Ace Inhibitor and wanted to take a Diuretic but he just said, let's take a small nerve Neuropathy test.

Brief Answer:
Possibly yes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
This may be one reason for the swelling and type of pain that you have.
Surely a trial with another Medications may help to solve the problem.
Please discuss this in detail with your Doctors and may help.
Also give the feedback about the results once you are shifted to another medications.

Take care.
