Why Do I Have Significant Eye Floaters Since Yesterday?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2022
Question: I have had significant eye floaters since yesterday. Went to the eye doctor and the retina is fine. He did not seem concerned about the sudden increase in floaters. Is the increase in floaters possibly a symptom of arterial issues? I've had floaters in the past but this is like large masses floating around in my vision. I can still see but they are annoying. a friend years ago ended up with a bypass due to symptoms of a mass in his vision. I don't know any other detail but that the "floater" or dark mass in his vision caused them to find the need for a bypass.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be posterior vitreous detachment and can be age related or secondary to chronic diseases like hypertension or diabetes and those should be worked up as well.

If fundoscopy had been unremarkable detailed slit lamp examination should be done. If suspicion remains new diagnostic modalities include USG B scan.

Meanwhile using supplements for calcium, D3, B complex as well as vitamin A can be helpful in limited amounts.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. Regards
