Brief Answer:
Possible diagnosis: Ringworm (tinea)

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The rash you are experiencing is likely due to ringworm/tinea infection, which is a fungal infection. The area around the anus is prone to increased sweating and thereby fungal infections.
You can apply Lotrimin antifungal ointment to the affected area twice daily for 14 days.
Keep the area clean and dry. Wear loose fitting breathable cotton underwear. Avoid tight clothing.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarification.

the area seems to only be red after sitting in a bath. the water is not too hot, even though hot water feels good. so how hot should it be?

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The redness you are noticing is likely due to the exposure of already inflamed fungus affected skin to hot water.

You can use warm water baths. Please follow the other measures detailed in the above discussion too.
