Why Can I Hear My Own Heart Pulse In My Right Ear For Over Two Months Now?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2021
Question: For the past two months, I've been experiencing hearing my pulse in my right ear when I'm at rest or in bed ready for sleep. it's quite annoying. I went to my doctor and he sent me to do a neck ultrasound and that came back negative. My pressure is a normal 120/80. Just had it checked today (118/78). I've had congestion in my chest also for the past month, which is slowly getting better, but this pulsing in my right ear has been going on for a couple of months. What can this be? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
An ear canal blockage seems to be more likely.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I passed carefully through your concern and would like to explain that there exist several reasons why you you continue to hear your pulse in your ear.

The most common cause is blockage of the ear canal or eustachian tube, which is a condition not rarely associated influenza or common flu. Considering the fact you have experienced chest congestion during the last month, the above cause seem to be more probable.

Other more rare conditions may be an aneurysm, a vascular malformation or a tumor, or other ear conditions like Meniere's disease, etc.

Coming to this point, I recommend consulting an ENT specialist for a careful physical exam and additional tests to exclude first primarily ear disorders and then a head angio MRI to exclude the other alternatives.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,
