Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Black stool can be due to different possible causes.

The most common causes are-(1) iron supplements
(2)pepto bismol
(3)bleeding from the upper part of the stomach

If you are not using iron supplements and pepto bismol then bleeding needs to be considered.

Bleeding is more common in persons with a history of gastritis or reflux. These can cause irritation of the lining of esophagus and stomach which can lead to bleeding.
If this is the likely cause for you then you should be seen by your doctor for assessment.
This would involve examination and possibly imaging such as a scope of the esophagus and stomach.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
