Which Medicine Is Equivalent To Selomax 50/5?

Question: Good Day, I was prescribed Selomax 50/5 two years ago. Offlate I have not been finding this medicine in XXXXXXX The chemists say there is a short supply by the manufacturer. Can you recommend and alternate medicine to Selomax 50/5 please. A chemist recommended Prolomet AM. However, wanted to be double sure before switching over.

First of all i will tell you what Selomax am 50/5 , It contains Metoprolol 50mg Amlodepine 5mg . So any medicine that contains this drugs in the dose mentioned above will do.

Some of the brand names available in XXXXXXX are Met-Xl-am 50/5 , Prolomet am , Vinicor- Am or Metapure am. .

Thanks Doctor. I Truly appreciate your quick turnaround. I have a few queries before I close the discussion. Selomax 50/5 was from Astra Zeneca. I fully understand brands to not matter as long as the salt is the same. However, would you have any preferred recommendations on the brand for ex Prolomet AM or Met-XI-am or Vinicor AM. I want to stick to a premium brand.

Also, offlate I have not seen many people take this combination (Metoprolol + Amlodipine). Would you recommend and alternate salt/combination?

My numbers have been stuck to 140/90 for the past 2 years after medication(probably because of the work stress). Should I consider a stronger doze or an alternate medicine. From the past two years I have been taking Telma H in morning and Selomax 50/5 at night.

Regarding the brands all 3 are good ( I have recommended only those brands which I personally prescribe to my patients ) . You want me to choose one among 3 I will pick Prolomet AM .

Well coming to your next query, there is no wrong with the combination but in some people the Amlodipine causes swelling of the ankle . If that has not happened in you , Prolomet AM can be continued . You can increase the dose of Telma H to one in the morning and half in the night along with Prolomet.

But if you are noticing swelling of your ankles then you can change over to MET-XL-T ( this is a combination of Metoprolol 50mg + Telmisartan ) which you have to take 2 times a day.

Kindly get your Blood pressure rechecked once after changing the medications to make sure your BP is controlled .

Thank you sir truly appreciate your timely inputs...do you provide consultation in XXXXXXX ..would be eager to fix an appointment with you...one silly question at times i get a slight pain on right shoulder and areas below the right lower ribs towards extreme right...could be an acidity issue...i hope this has nothing to do with heart...eager to meet with you...thanks

First as of your pain ya even I feel it is due to acidity and not due to heart. One other possibility is Gall stones. It is stones in gall bladder which is near the liver. Not a serious condition .

If your pain is very frequent then get Ultrasound abdomen scan to check for gall stones.
