What Should Be Done After A Mild Head Injury?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jun 2014
Question: My 1 yr old son fell down from the bed flat on his face and hurt his left forehead. i applied ice immediately. there is no swelling but a red bruise is there. a few drops of blood came out from the left nostril, the corner of his left eye has also become red and is swollen. he vomited out his food 1 hour after the injury. his paed checked and did not detect anything wrong (he also has a lot of mucus since yesterday). but i am worried about possible complications. what to do? he has since eaten 2 semisolid meals and 1 bottle of milk properly, no more vomiting, playing normally.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a mild head injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's symptoms and would like to reassure you that there is no need to worry.

The head injury seems to be mild and he would recover soon.

There seems to be external injury (scalp bruise/swelling and nose injury resulting in bleed).

The symptoms to watch out for would be: repeated vomiting, drowsiness, lethargy, less movement of one arm or leg, fits, etc. If any of these occur, then, a CT scan of head should be done, otherwise, we can continue to wait and watch at home.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
