Brief Answer:
Go for Oral glucose tolerance test

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Since HbA1C is staying in normal range, I will suggest that you go for oral glucose tolerance test. I hope you do not eat anything for 8 hrs before the fasting glucose test and oral gtt. If you did the fasting glucose test correctly, then its still in pre-diabetes stage that is why HbA1C is normal. Even if Diabetes is there, its most likely type 2 diabetes. Its because of your age, gradual onset, absence of any drastic symptoms like weight loss or ketosis, it doesn't seem to be type 1 diabetes.

You must have a low sugar diet and regular exercise for now. I do not think medicines are necessary until oral gtt is abnormal. If it comes to be abnormal, I would start you on oral medicine metformin.

Regarding your lipid profile, you do not need statins currently. If your LDL levels increase by even 1 mmol/l then you might need statins. Low fat diet must be taken. Avoid milk products like cheese, butter, cream, ice cream etc. Cakes, pastries, cookies also contain high calories and need to be avoided. Will also suggest cleaner drinking water and regular exercise.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
