Question: Hi, I broke my radius and ulna about 18 months ago and am planning on having them removed in December so I can become a Marine Corps officer. What should I expect as far recovery time from this surgery?

Brief Answer:
hardware removal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am assuming you are talking about having the hardware removed. Most people are doing pretty well after such a surgery in 3 weeks but if you are in the military you would probably need at least 6 weeks recovery before you could return to active duty. If you could get light duty that does not require lifting or pulling with that hand then you may be able to return to work sooner. In general, it takes 6 weeks for tissues to heal to the point where they will not pull apart when put under strain. Infections or other complications can increase the healing time.
Wishing you the best,
Dr. Robinson
