Brief Answer:
Suggestive of osteoarthritis knee.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

Although it isn't possible to diagnose your condition without an examination and a few tests, your history is suggestive of osteoarthritis knee. Often called wear-and-tear arthritis, osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time.

I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for detailed examination. You may get the X-ray/MRI, some blood tests and joint fluid analysis under his/her guidance to reach the accurate diagnosis.

The following measures will help with the pain

Do regular Exercise. Exercise can increase your endurance and strengthen the muscles around your joint, making your joint more stable. Stick to gentle exercises, such as walking, biking or swimming.

Lose weight if you are obese- Being overweight or obese increases the stress on your weight-bearing joints, such as your knees and your hips. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce your pain.

Use heat and cold to manage pain. Both heat and cold can relieve pain in your joint. Heat also relieves stiffness and cold can relieve muscle spasms.

Apply over-the-counter pain creams. Creams and gels available at the drugstore may provide temporary relief from osteoarthritis pain.

Take diet rich in calcium, vitamin d3 and minerals

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

I have another question, this knee pain is on my left knee and it has started few days ago however, I have been having pelvic pain (ileac crest pain) on the left hand side for about 3-4 weeks now that it gets worse after long sitting or long driving, when I want to get up and start moving it is really painful but gets better as I start walking... Can these two bone pains be related to each other? I'm a 42 year old female with no history of any chronic disease, no back pain, neck pain, falling and I'm not an athlete.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
These two pain can be related to each other.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Pelvic pain that you have described are likely to be due to muscular spasm most likely caused by a wrong body posture. These two pain can be related in term of wear and tear joint. Taking mild stretching exercise will be helpful. Pain killers and muscle relaxants will bring a short term relief.

I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopaedician and get the X-ray of affected area done under his/her guidance.

Wishing you speedy recovery....

Warm regards.
