Brief Answer:

It is in prediabetic range.

Detailed Answer:

Hi!

Prediabetes is defined as a fasting between 100 to 126 according to the XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX or a 2 hour after meal of 140 to 200 or an HbA1C between 5.7% to 6.5%.

This means that the fasting of 100 would just put you into the prediabetic zone. You may want to consider testing either the 2 hour or HbA1C to confirm.

Despite a strong family history, lifestyle changes can slow down the change to full diabetes.

Lifestyle changes would involve--
(1) at least 150 mins a week of physical activity is recommended. This can be divided into 5 days, 30 mins each. A mixture of aerobic and strength training is best

(2)diet- in general most sodas (unless low calorie) and juices have a lot of unnecessary sugar. Eliminating their use would help, water should be used instead.
In addition using less processed carbs, more fruits and vegetables, is recommended as well.

(3)if a repeat fasting or another test (2 hour post or HbA1C) confirms prediabetes, can also consider Metformin. It is used both in prediabetes to slow down progress and also in diabetes to help control blood sugar.

With a change in diet and activity and possibly Metformin, you may be able to stall from becoming a diabetic.

I hope this helps.
