Thank you for your answer.
I understand your qualified response.
I would like to ask for a more specific answer, without providing the lab reports. I hope my expansion will aid you.
The 93 year old is my father.
He has a history of multiple by pass surgery (20 years ago)
Prostrate cancer, 15 years ago, with radiation leading to failure of colon and need for colostomy stoma. Sugar diabetes sufferer for all his adult life. Up until year ago good mobility with the aid of walker, and high level of cognitive capability.

Has been a steady downhill over past months including three hospitilations
1 ) Infection of the urine tract
2) bleeding from stoma
3) development of infection leading to gangrene in his lower left leg.

I have spent a large part of my time accompaying my father , putting my personal life on hold. My father lives in a very nice nursing home, 3 minutes from where I live.

Yesterday, after deciding NOT to operate on his leg with gangrene, (as the survival rates for a man of his age and condition are near zero) it was decided by all that the best was to return to his familiar surroundings in his home , surrounded by people he knows, who treat him with care and love, and under the necessary doses of morphine (Oxycode, patches etc) to live out his last days/weeks.

And to my question.

While trying now to get back "to the rest of my life" it is important to me to be the side of my father when the time comes. I live and work, within short distance of my father's nursing home.

HOWEVER my work includes regular trips out of the country, even for a few days. As a s result I have NOT traveled these past weeks, and I do not wish to travel until my father"s time comes.

Although I understand that it difficult to give an estimate, I feel it is only in good faith that I inform my superiors at my work place that I will not be travelling in the near future, and it is to that aim I am asking my question....

I want to tell the people at work if it weeks or even months that I will be unable to travel.

I look forward to your reply, UNDERSTANDING THAT LAB REPORTS ETC have an influence but a guided maximum estimate would be appreciated, again understanding at it might be a lot less time

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

* As the gangrene is local pathology, when untreated will turn into systemic involvement in form of general sepsis state.

* Depending upon the immune response of the patient, he may survive for certain days to weeks till his system fights the same.

Hope this will help you to understand the issue. You are welcome for further assistance.

My regards to you for all the sympathy and care which you have and give to your father.
