Question: What is the interaction between Livalo and Tegretol? does tegretol make effect of livalo stronger? At 80 yrs should I start with lower dose of Livalo?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

While there are no recommendations to reduce Livalo dosage in the elderly, the combination with Carbamazepine does carry an increased risk of toxicity on the muscles.

So while not formally contraindicated it is advised to monitor closely for symptoms of muscle damage like muscle pain, fatigue and in that case confirm it by the appropriate blood tests and interrupt it. Personally I would prefer to start with a lower dosage of Livalo (as you yourself suggest) but since I do not know why you are taking it (cholesterol values, other conditions etc) or carbamazepine, it is hard to judge.
