Question: How do you tell the difference between a viral bronchitis and asthma flare up. Cough started Tuesday and I've been on Asmanex since Tuesday night without much change. No fever or nasal symptoms. Thanks

..........................

How long do these asthma flare ups usually last?

Brief Answer:
There are different symptoms among them.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Usually, viral bronchitis is anticipated by upper airways symptoms such as a common cold with nasal secretions, fever or not, muscles pain and as a result, it might go down in lower airways and cause viral bronchitis.

Meanwhile, the flares up are more acute and may be triggered immediately and without any known cause with breathlessness and usually dry cough.

As you explain the history it might be the asthma flares up your actual situation. If the situation gets worse than you can start steroids nebulizer like Budesonide twice per day.

Hope to have been helpful.

Regards and feel free to ask me again.
