default
Posted on Fri, 1 Aug 2014
Question: I have had ear nose, and chest congestion for seven days, I also have sinus and ear pressure. I just finished taking a z pack 250 mg.. My lungs have improved but the pressure in my ears is terrible and I still have sinus congestion. It wont drain or "pop". It has been ringing and crackling and now I hear an echo and am experiencing sudden sharp pain. What can I do to relieve pressure and pain? Thanks...

Brief Answer:
antihistamines along with decongestants

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ear. It can result in different noises including the ringing that you are experiencing.

It can be due to different causes including respiratory tract infection as in your case.

The pressure sensation in your ears is likely due to eustachian tube dysfunction. This is a canal in the face that connects the middle ear to the back of the nose and throat.
It plays different roles including equalising pressure.

You need to consider the use of anti histamines and decongestants along with your oral pain killers.
You should use both oral and topical decongestants. The topical nasal decongestants are ephedrine, oxymetazoline or xylometazoline.
Oral are pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine.
All of these are available over the counter. Oral antihistamines may be found combined with decongestants such as clariflu, zyrtec d, allegra d.

It may take a few days for complete relief because the viral infection itself still needs to resolve.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
