default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jun 2014
Question:
I am experiencing severe gas problems. Its so bad, sometimes I'd swear I'm having heart problems. But after I start belching, the pain starts to ease up. Is there anything I can take that is stronger than Ultra Gas-X?
I am on Nexium

Brief Answer:
More medical data is needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Gas is caused by:
- foods
- drinks (carbonated)
- medicines
- constipation
- lack of physical activity

In your case, can you please tell if you are also having constipation problems?

If yes, it might be caused by medications you are taking (trazodone, Victoza). I advise to discuss it further with the doctor who prescribed such drugs in order to stop using them or change to another drug.

Meanwhile, I advise to:
- avoid/ease constipation
- drink at least 3 bottles of water/day
- eat often, small portions and slowly chewing
- be more physically involved
- take probiotics

If no changes within a few days, further lab tests are needed:
- kidney/liver function tests
- culture of feces for candida
- examination of stool for ova/parasites

Hope it helped!
Dr.Albana
