Brief Answer:
cortex- outer layer of kidney

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different parts of the kidney.

Cortical refers to the cortex of the kidneys. The cortex are the outer areas of the kidneys. It is between the renal capsule which covers the outside of the kidney and the renal medulla.

Bilateral renal cortical thinning- thinning or decrease in size of the cortex of both kidneys.
This can occur due to various causes such as: (1)chronic kidney failure
(2)with aging there can decrease in size
(3)frequent recurrent infections of the kidneys

Bilateral renal cysts- cysts are sac that can collect fluid. According to the imaging investigation, cysts are present in both kidneys.

Cysts in the kidney may be classified as simple or complex.

Simple cysts are more common and do not normally have any complications. They are not associated with cancer.Simple cysts are present in 30- 50% of persons over age 50.

More than likely, unless other wise stated, your cysts are simple cysts that would simply require monitoring to see if increase in size. In some cases the increase can be associated with discomfort.
