What Is A Bursted Sac Bag Found In Stomach During Surgery?

Question: my niece just had surgery and the doctor was very suprised when they opened her up, they founed a sack that had bursted, they then sowed the bag up and then continued the surgery. My question to you is what was this bag and where is it located and its function.

If this was abdominal surgery then they were probably talking about hernia sac which is commonly found as incidental finding and can be easily repaired.

Also it may have been fluid filled cyst . In every case if this was something serious then surgeon would have told her that.
