Brief Answer:
Synthetic progesterone.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
MEPRATE - medroxy progesterone acetate- is a synthetic progestogen structurally related to natural progesterone with actions and uses similar to all other progestogens in general use. It is used for the treatment of secondary amenorrhoea - to bring the periods and for abnormal uterine bleeding not due to organic pathology in suitable doses.
It is also used in mild endometriosis and for re- programming of menstrual cycle.
The dose needs to be adjusted according to the severity of the problem and the individual.

I had a dark brown discharge for 2 months insread kf my regular periods. I consulted the dr. and she asked me to take meprate 10mg for 5 days. I am a little concerned. What am I diagnosed with? And will my problem be resolved after taking this medicine? Also, to mention I have hypothyroid.

Brief Answer:
Will help in bringing periods.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Taking meprate for 5 days will help you in having a withdrawal bleeding after stopping the tablet. This will help in re programming your cycles. Then from next cycle you will need to take meprate for last 10 days so that you have a regular bleeding pattern. By that time your gynecologist will do all the hormonal tests and ultrasound scan to find out the exact pathology.
This will help in bringing your periods once.
Hope my answer is helpful.
